ASHBURN, Va. — Everyone remembers the pause.

That extra beat or two Adam Peters took at his January 2024 introductory news conference when asked his thoughts on the inherited roster. The Washington Commanders were coming off a 4-win season, and those here for the drudgery understood the talent deficit. Interpreters of Peters’ halting sensed the new General Manager understood as well.

“I believe that there are a few cornerstone pieces on the roster,” Peters said upon getting his mouth moving again. “I believe we have a lot of work to do.”

He wasn’t kidding. The mission went beyond upgrades. Washington simply needed more viable bodies.

And here we are a year later: plenty of work remains.
