Commanders depth chart 1.0: Where every position stands before training camp

After six OTA and minicamp practices, here's how I see Washington's roster hierarchy — from Antonio Williams and Sonny Styles to offensive line battles and WR2 debate.

Less than a week after the Washington Commanders concluded minicamp and more than a month before they return for training camp is too early for a 53-man roster projection.

Creating a depth chart is another matter.

Here is a look at how I see the hierarchy in each position room after watching six OTA and minicamp practices, hearing from head coach Dan Quinn and his new offensive and defensive coordinators, and chatting with players. All of this is subject to change, but likely not before rookies report on July 24, followed by veterans on the 28th.

Quarterback

QB1 — Jayden Daniels
QB2 — Marcus Mariota
QB3 — Athan Kaliakmanis, Sam Hartman

One to watch: The answer is and always will be Daniels.

He’s coming off a season in which injuries limited him to four completed games and admitted he still has “a long way to go” before mastering Washington’s new offense under coordinator David Blough.

I’m not worried about Daniels adjusting to different pass concepts, new targets or taking snaps under center. He’ll be fine.

Jayden Daniels says he's still learning Washington's offense. The Commanders like what they're seeing.

The only concern remains availability. Daniels has missed time in each of his first two seasons. Fortunately for Washington, his Gumby-esque frame has thus far avoided any long-term damage despite some significant hits. It’s tackle football. Stuff happens.

Maybe just don’t call designed runs all that often.

Bonus: Kaliakmanis will be Washington’s QB3. The question is whether the seventh-round rookie holds that distinction on the 53-man roster or the practice squad.
